Potty Training Diary

Morgan in a diaper - early 2009

Saturday, February 12, 2011
7 a.m. - Morgan and I both wake up excited about putting her in underwear for the first time!!

It takes her awhile to sort through the 17 pair of underwear we purchased before she finds the ones she wants to wear.

Despite frequent trips to sit on the toilet, a little while later she pees in the underwear, so we rush to the bathroom to sit on the toilet, and when she says "I'm done" we get off the potty, wash our hands and repeat the underwear selection process (obviously with one fewer pair to sort through this time).

Then we clean up the pee that got on the carpet in the playroom.

Finally we return to playing, and she pees in her underwear again.

Repeat process.

At least 7 times before lunch.

Most of them falling back-to-back within one hour and a half span.

Throw in a dog who decides he'd better mark his territory with a huge puddle of dog urine before Morgan claims the whole house ...

6:30 p.m. - Celebrate! Hug! Clap! Rejoice in the fact Morgan has finally peed in the toilet for the first time all day!

Sometime in the p.m. - Freak out with excitement when Morgan poops in the potty for the first time ever!

Note how cute it is when she proclaims, "I pee and poop in the potty!"

Naptime - Morgan develops a moderate diaper rash, forcing us to return to diapers while it clears up for the next two and a half days. We continue to sit on the potty - but, admittedly, with less frequency or urgency.

Morgan's first full day without an accident!! Hip hip hooray!

Tuesday, March 15, 2011
It has been just over a month since we began this adventure in earnest. Overall, it has been incredibly successful! Morgan has not peed in her underwear in over a week, we have not had any accidents when we've been out in public and she has peed in the potty at two of our friends' houses when they were babysitting (this may not seem like a big deal, but unfamiliar potties plus no mom or dad equals uncertain outcome)!

We are continuing to work on pooping in the potty and washing our hands for an appropriate length of time (she used to love washing hands but now that it is required she resists).

Morgan, we are so proud of how much you have accomplished in just one month! Keep up the good work, because, as your favorite video says, "You're a Big Kid Now"!

Figures. The day after I posted this we had an accident in public.

AWESOME!!! Very exciting. Was your accident in the toy aisle of a store? Our friend's little girl had one just after they had successfully potty trained, and the store staff said it was VERY common. They get in with the toys and are too distracted or too afraid to leave for fear they will never come back!

Nope, it was in the library. Morgan has seen the toy aisle very few times in her life.
