We FINALLY did it! Morgan no longer sleeps in a crib!
She was ready. We were ready. We waited until she was 3 years, 6 months and 27 days old (that's March 3, 2012 for anyone who's counting) to make the switch. I really try to take my cues from Morgan on these types of developmental milestones. Even at age three and a half and counting she still was not giving us any indication that she desired to stop sleeping in a crib. No refusal to go in the crib, no whining about getting a 'big girl bed', no attempting to climb out of the crib, nothing. However, she has been sleeping very well on a camping cot for over year whenever we travel, so I knew she would do just fine when we transitioned her to a toddler bed.
Doesn't she look so happy?! She's been showing everyone who comes over her bed, because she's so excited. In a twist of irony, though, she keeps telling everyone to "come see my crib!," even though we keep calling it her "bed."
An important part of the switch to a toddler bed was getting some new bedding. We asked Cousin Mindy to make the quilt on her bed. We asked Mindy to make it red and white and she pulled together the cutest fabrics for the quilt (and matching pillow sham that she surprised us with)! My favorite parts are the red and white polka dot fabric around the edge and the red rickrack that you can see running underneath Morgan's legs in the photo directly above. Morgan also received a surprise from Grandma Berta, who knitted her a matching red and white afghan and throw pillow (shown in the photo) for her "new" bed. We didn't know Grandma was knitting the afghan, so it's just a beautiful coincidence that the chevron pattern of the knitted items match the rickrack Mindy used on the quilt so it's like everything was meant to go together. Special thank yous go to Cousin Mindy and Grandma Berta, because we will cherish these beautiful items forever.
Three weeks later and the switch to the toddler bed is going fine. Morgan still stalls at bedtime about the same amount as she did before and Jeff and I are slowly getting used to the fact that sometimes we turn around and she is just standing there (which kind of spooks you at first!) - kids are very quiet when they sneak out of bed!

Love it! So cool how the pillow coordinates with the quilt Mindy made. I thought you planned that!
I never could have coordinated that so perfectly! It had to be divine intervention.
I'm glad we got to see it first hand. It is lovely and it goes so good in her adorable bedroom. Your home is super homey..Morgan is growing up too fast just like the rest of them. Tears about that!! Hugs from A. Denise
Thanks again you three for your hospitality. Always have a great time with you. Can't wait until you come visit us sometime.
