Memories of Everyday Life

Recently Morgan was "washing" dishes while I cleaned up the kitchen. I sneezed, and without skipping a beat, she replied, "Bless you, Mommy." Shocked, I laughed, thanked her and paused to savor the moment.

When I picked Morgan up out of her crib a couple weeks ago, I felt that her diaper had leaked during the night. I said to her, "You're all wet." Her reply? "No, I'm Morgan." Yes, my child, you are your own sweet, silly brand of Morgan.

This year was Morgan's first where she began to grasp the concept of Halloween. It started off on a bad note, however, because she immediately equated it with "Scary Guys," a.k.a. any stuffed/animated toy relating to halloween in any way.
She has been obsessed with the "Scary Guys" for the past month. It started out as pure fear. She made my parents take down all of their halloween decorations when we visited in early Oct. All of them. Even the tiniest tabletop pumpkin.
Then it turned into fear mixed with curiosity. She wanted our "Scary Guys" to be out on display, but they had to be "up high" or "stuck" somewhere for her to walk around the house on her own.
Eventually, she acquired a hesitant appreciation of the "Scary Guys" and even began taking a few of the milder ones (Scooby Doo in a witch hat and Snoopy in a wizard costume) with her to daycare.
And even though we boxed them all up and put them in the closet Monday night, she was still talking about them this morning as we went to daycare:
"Where's the Scary Guys? Oh, in the closet. No more Mummy. He can't get me. He's in the closet. Candy Corn is in the closet. We should get him ..."

UPDATE 11/8/10: Morgan is still fixated on the Scary Guys. She talked about them all weekend. Daddy got down some santas and snowmen to try to alleviate the Scary Guys obsession. This morning when she got up: "Scary Guys in the closet. There's Santa. He can't get me ..."

So sweet! I especially love "No, I'm Morgan!" I also think "Scary Guys" is pretty cute too. The twins still haven't distinguished between scary and not. We had to spend some time at cvs and they laughed and laughed at a skeleton hand bowl where the hand grabbed theirs whenever they put it near! I expect next year will be very different...

Awe...she is so smart. I hope the scary things pass and she can have fun with stuff if not it's ok not to like Halloween. I'm getting to hate it, the kids this year were very rude. I think next year I will go downstate and just visit. Hopefully Morgan will like Christmas much better :) Hugs from A. Denise
